Mrs. Kato Frasier Skelton, age 84, of Wartrace, died Monday, July 5, 2010, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

Graveside services will be 11 AM Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at Hollywood Cemetery in Wartrace.  Reverend Fay Tucker will officiate.

The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the cemetery.

She was born May 25, 1926, in Philadelphia, Mississippi, to the late William Napoleon and Josephine Jenkins Frasier.  She was a retired LPN and worker many years in Shelby County and in Mississippi. She was an active member in the Eastern Star and a devoted member of Hampshire Methodist Church.       

She was preceded in death by her former husband, William Howard Skelton, Sr. and a son, Jerry Mark Skelton.

She is survived by three sons, Hal Skelton, and his wife Janie of Wartrace, Daniel A. Skelton, and his wife Cynthia, of Hartselle, Alabama, and James A. Skelton, and his wife Takana, of Cordova, Tennessee; a brother, Paul Frasier, of Waynesboro, Mississippi, and a sister, Neva Palmer, of Jackson, Mississippi; eight grandchildren.

Mr. Darral Glen Woodard, age 51, of Shelbyville, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Heritage Medical Center.

Lee Anne Moulder, age 23, of Shelbyville, died Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Heritage Medical Center.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by grandparents, Dr. Samuel T. Pearce and Albert and Dorothy Moulder. 

She is survived by her mother, Susan Pearce Moulder; a brother, Todd Moulder, and a sister, Lindsey Yoes, and her husband John; a nephew, Mason; a grandmother, Polly Pearce, all of Shelbyville.

Loretta Butler Crosslin 

Ms. Loretta Crosslin, born November 21, 1922, formerly of Shelbyville, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2010 at Mercy West Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee with her loving daughters by her side.   She was a joyous Christian who devoutly followed the Shepherd’s Chapel services and loved the teachings of the Lord.   She was born in Lewisburg, Tennessee, one of ten children of Arthur Joseph Butler and Josephine Haskins Butler.  She married Aubrey Lee Crosslin in 1944 who was the love of her life.  In 1945 their daughter Jo Ann was born, and in 1950 their daughter Mary Elizabeth was born.     In later years as an independent woman, Loretta learned to dance and enjoyed doing the two-step at the senior citizens centers in Manchester and Fayetteville.   She was a generous and kind-hearted person, always smiled, loved to fish, and never turned down a good game of “Aggravation.”   Her collections of salt and pepper shakers and wind chimes are famous.   Her favorite memories were of the cruise she took with her daughter Mary and granddaughters Jennifer and Lisa, as well as  jetting around the country with her daughter JoAnn and son-in-law Ronnie.  She loved house boating with son-in-law Sam and daughter Mary, and fishing off the dock.   She took pride in her family and loved each family member fiercely.  She wanted everyone to be healthy and happy.  She especially worried about the welfare of her fraternal twin sister, Henrietta, and whether or not she had food or clothing.  Often she sacrificed for herself to ensure Henrietta was provided for.   She was truly an angel on earth and a precious soul.  In addition to her parents, Ms. Crosslin is predeceased by former husband Aubrey Lee Crosslin and by five brothers and three sisters:  Arthur Julius Butler, Reuben Earl Butler, Roy Butler, Elmore Butler, Lester Butler, Hazel Jones, Bovell Butler, and Mary Hasty.  Survivors include:  daughter Jo Ann Kirkland and husband, Ronald E. Kirkland of Knoxville, TN;  daughter Mary Elizabeth Gaines and husband Samuel L. Mrs. Kathryn C. Kimmins, age 77, of the Longview Community, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at Heritage Medical Center.

She was born September 25, 1932, in Williamson County, to the late Ernest Glen and Sallie Mai Newsom Crick.  She was a quilter and a homemaker, and was a faithful member of Kingdom Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Milton Kimmins in 2009, and twin infant sisters, Emily and Evelyn Crick, and a brother in law, Kenneth Smith.

She is survived by a son, Joel Kimmins, and his wife Brenda Leverette, and a daughter, Sally Kimmins Seivers, and her husband, Wetzel, all of the Longview Community.  She is also survived by a brother and two sisters that she helped raise, Ernie Crick, and his wife Pat, of Longview, Betty Lagerquist, and her husband Scott, of Gearhart, Oregon, and Glenda Dyer, and her husband Paul, of Eagleville.  She also is survived by three sisters, Jean Bustos, of Victoria, Texas, Marie Travis, and her husband, Sam, of Rockvale, and Doris Smith, of Shelbyville; five grandchildren, Josh Pylant, Julia Pylant Morton, Adam Pylant, Will Kimmins, and Emily Kimmins; six great grandchildren, MacKenzie Pylant, Mason Rucker, Talan Pylant, Brylie Morton, Zoey Pylant, and Elijah Pylant.

Mr. Robert Leonard “Woody” Woodson, age 77, of Bell Buckle, died Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Christian Care Center of Bedford County.

Funeral services will be 3 PM Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel.  John Houston will officiate. Burial with full military honors, will follow in Smotherman Cemetery.

He was born August 10, 1932 in Bedford County, to the late Robert Lee and Sabina Ann Moulder Woodson.  He was a former member of the Tennessee National Guard, a retired truck driver with Bedford County Highway Department, and member of New Zion Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ann Yarborough Woodson in 2009, a daughter, Patricia Pope, and a son, Bobby Woodson. 

He is survived by three daughters, Pam Redden and Barbara Mooningham, both of Shelbyville, and Shelia White, of Jackson, Tennessee; three sons, Eddie Woodson and Don Woodson, both of Shelbyville, and Jerry Woodson, of Minnesota; a step son, Thomas Wyman Yarborough, of Shelbyville; thirteen grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

He was born March 25, 1935, in Adams County, Wisconsin, to the late Arthur John and Margarite Steinborn Pickhardt.  He was a retired systems Manager with AT & T. He owned and rode Tennessee Walking Horses, and earned several world championships, and was the owner of Lando'nod Farms in Menomone Falls, Wisconsin. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where he was a Council member.  

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Pickhardt, of Shelbyville; two sons, Scott Pickhardt, and his wife Karen, and Michael Pickhardt, all of Wisconsin; a daughter, Kerry Wicklund, and her husband Mark, of Wisconsin; a brother, Bob Pickhardt, and his wife Carol, two sisters, Carol Bolden, and her husband Roy, and Kathy Manthey, and her husband Harold, all of Wisconsin; eight grandchildren.

Mr. James Ivan Potts, Jr., age 90, of Shelbyville, died Monday, July 26, 2010, at Heritage Medical Center. 

Funeral services will be 2 PM Friday, July 30, 2010, at First United Methodist Church.  Reverend Dr. Lloyd Doyle will officiate.  Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. 

Visitation will be 12 noon until service time Friday at the church. 

He was born in Shelbyville, Tennessee on September 10, 1919, the son of J. Ivan and Alice Virginia Potts.  He has one brother, Harold Hall Potts, of Huntsville, Alabama. He attended Shelbyville Central High School and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1942 with a B.S. Degree in Commerce.  While at the University of Kentucky, he served as President of Phi Delta Theta social fraternity and Captain of Scabbard and Blade, national military society.  He also served as Regimental Adjutant of the Reserve Officers Training Corps.  He was a member of Lamp and Cross, a senior honorary society and Vice President of the Student Union Board.

Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, army air Corps.  He served as a B-29 Pilot with 25th Bombardment Squadron, 40th Bombardment Group (VH) in India, China, and Tinian in the Western Pacific.  He completed 35 missions and 8 “hump trips” with a total of 525 combat hours.

In September 1945, he was selected as a pilot on General Curtis LeMay’s personal crew.  On September 18, 1945, the crew completed the record breaking long distance flight from Japan to Washington, DC.  The flight broke four Army Air Force records.  He received a personal commendation from General of the Air Force, H.H. Arnold for his participation in this flight.  He was separated from active duty as a captain in 1945.

His awards include two Distinguished Flying Crosses, four Air Medals, the Army Commendation Medal, two Presidential Citations, and the American Campaign Medal with one Battle Star, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with four Battle Stars, the Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal with one Battle Star.  He was awarded the Chinese Memorial Medal and Senior Pilots Wings by the Republic of China.  He holds a commission as a Colonel (Retired) in the Tennessee Air National Guard.

In 1946-47, he served as a Foreign Service Officer, Department of State, in the U.S. Embassy, in Lima, Peru.  He served as Chief of Staff to Ambassador Prentice Cooper.

He married Miss Katherine Bishop Dale, of Nashville, TN on October 21, 1949, in Wightman Chapel at Scarriet College.  They have on son, James Ivan Potts, III, who was born in 1959.  He is married to Susan Cooper, of Canton, Georgia.  They have two daughters, Elizabeth Ann, born in 1990 and Sara Katherine, born in 1994.

Ivan joined his father in Stewart Potts Motors, a Ford-Mercury dealership in 1950.  He became the dealer in 1955 and was President of the firm until 1980 when the dealership was sold.  Stewart Potts Motors was a very successful dealership, receiving recognition and many awards from Ford Motor Company.

He became a member of First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville on August 30, 1931, and has been a member since that time.  From 1956-1964, he served as Chairman of the Official Board and as a member of the World Service Commission of The Tennessee Conference.

In the political arena, he was one of the authors of the Tennessee Motor Vehicle Dealer-Manufacturing Licensing Law.  As a member of the Motor Vehicle Commission under four governors, he served as Chairman of Commission in 1963 under Governor Frank G. Clement.

A member of the Shelbyville Rotary Club for almost fifty years, he served as President in 1959-60.  He was honored by the club as a Paul Harris Fellow in 1979.

He was a member of the Tennessee Automotive Association, serving as a Director and Secretary-Treasurer and as Association President in 1962.  In 1967, he received the Andrew Jackson Award for his contribution to the automotive industry in Tennessee. In 1968, he was awarded the National Benjamin Franklin Quality Dealership Award by the Saturday Evening Post for citizenship, community service, and contributions to the automotive industry, representing the highest standards of American Business.

Having a serious interest in community affairs, he has held numerous local positions.  He served as Shelbyville’s first Civil Defense Director under Mayor Eustice Williams.  He served as a member of the Shelbyville Housing Authority.  He served as Director and Vice President of the Shelbyville Chamber of Commerce and as Director and member of the Executive Committee of Peoples National Bank, Dominion Bank of Tennessee, and First Union Bank of Tennessee.  He is a life member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

A descendent of Thomas Jackson, he became a member of Stones River Chapter, Tennessee Society, Sons of the American Revolution in 1975.

An active supporter of scouting, he served as a member of the Executive Committee, Middle Tennessee Council, BSA. He organized and served as first Chairman, Two Rivers District, BSA.  He holds the Scouting Long Rifle and Silver Beaver Awards.

He is a Life Trustee of the Webb Preparatory Scholl in Bell Buckle, Tennessee.  He serves on the Executive Committee, Chairman of the Finance Committee, and as Chairman of the Parents Giving in 1976-77.

After the sale of Stewart Potts Motors, he became active in SCORE-ACE, the Service Corps of Active nad Retired Executives, sponsored by the Small Business Administration. In 1982, he became state coordinator of the program, supervising the efforts of over 100 volunteer consultants to small businesses across Tennessee.

In 1987, he became Associate Director of the Small Business Development Center at Middle Tennessee State University, a position he held until his retirement in 1990.

            An avid student of history, he has authored two books, “The Potts Family of Bedford County, Tennessee” and “Remembrance of War,” published in 1995. His articles on World War II have appeared in Air Force Magazine, the Congressional Record, the Kentucky Alumnus, Friends Magazine of the Air Force Museum, and Alan Grigg’s “Flying Flack Alley.” 

            Other surviving family members include: brother Harold (Carol) Potts, Huntsville, AL; a niece Gigi (Al) Potts Daniel, Marietta, GA; a nephew Hal Potts, Huntsville, AL; a sister in law Nancy Dale Palm, Houston, TX; four nieces Lucinda T. Trabue, Nashville, Mary Dale(John) Fitzgerald, Nashville, Macy Lindsay Spearmen, Chapel Hill, N.C., Kathy Carmichael (Byrom) Poole, Birmingham, AL; two nephews Don Gray, Cincinnati, OH, Bob Spearman, Raleigh, N.C., a great niece, Katherine Fitzgerald Murphy, Alexandria, Virginia; a great nephew, David Fitzgerald, Nashville.

Mrs. Kathryn Phillips Daniel, age 85, of Shelbyville, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Heritage Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel.  Russ Countess and Geoff Giesemann will officiate, with burial to follow in Willow Mount Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-7 PM Friday at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel.

She was born November 17, 1924, the first Caesarean section baby in Bedford County, to the late Edgar and Dora Hart Rees.  She began teaching at the age of eighteen in a one-room schoolhouse in the Himesville community and continued to teach in Bedford County schools for forty years.  She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Shelbyville FCE, Bedford County Historical Society, and Bedford County Retired Teachers Association.  She was a faithful member of Fairlane Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, David Phillips, in 1999, and her second husband, Bill Daniel, in 2007.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Michael D. Phillips and his wife Joyce Cortner Phillips of Knoxville, and two grandchildren, Dr. Jim Phillips of Birmingham and Katie Phillips of Nashville.

He was born January 2, 1942, in Bedford County, to the late Coy Perkins and Loreene McMahon.  He was a carpenter and member of Vessels Unto Honour Ministries. 

He is survived by three sons, Guy Fred Perkins, Jr., John Perkins, and Arthur Perkins, all of Shelbyville; a daughter, Shawanda Perkins, of Chattanooga; eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
