Mrs. Minnie Eliza Reed Segroves, age 95, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at Glen Oaks Convalescent Center.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at Shelbyville Mills Baptist Church. Reverend Ryan Jensen and Reverend Jonathan Sims will officiate. A private burial will be held in Willow Mount Cemetery.
Visitation will be 12 noon until time of service Wednesday at the church.
She was born March 20, 1914, in Cannon County, Tennessee, to the late C.D. and Ethia Ann Travis Reed. She was a homemaker and Charter Member of Shelbyville Mills Baptist Church. She spent her life caring for her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Segroves and a son, Bobby Thomas Segroves.
She is survived by six children, Larry Segroves, of Shelbyville, Roland Segroves, and his wife Sharon, of Tullahoma, Norma Zae Jensen, and her husband Aksel III, David Segroves, and his wife Nina Gay, Harold Segroves, and his wife Dawn, and Tim Segroves, all of Shelbyville; fifteen grandchildren, Kelly Hixson, Kyle Segroves, and his wife Ashley, Garth Segroves, Aksel Jensen IV and his wife Christy, Joshua Jensen, Ryan Jensen, and his wife Laura, Liza Jensen Holmes, and her husband Josh, Brannon Segroves, and his wife Ashley, Susannah Segroves Thompson, and her husband Michael, Stephen Segroves, Erin Segroves, Elizabeth Segroves, Holly Heffington, Laura Segroves Sager, and her husband Michael, and Chrissy Segroves; twelve grandchildren, Jade Segroves, Breit Hixson, Drew Hixson, Gavin Segroves, Gwynth Segroves, Annie-Grace Jensen, Zoe Jensen, Molly Jensen, Alaphair Holmes, Jack Roland Holmes, Harper Holmes, and Elle Thompson; one great great grandchild, Charlotte Rose Carcuff.
She is also survived by a brother, Bill Reed, of Midland, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was born March 16, 1934, Shelbyville, to the late Joseph E. Bias and Serena Ray. She was retired from ALCAN and a member of Scott United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Collins.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Smith, and her husband Joe, of Murfreesboro, and Brenda Collins Hodge, of Shelbyville; a sister, Lydia Pruitt, of California, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mrs. Henrietta Carlton Haarala, age 88, Port Richey, Florida, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, in New Jersey.
Funeral services will be 1 PM Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Cothran Cemetery in the Rover Community.
Visitation will be 4-8 PM Friday at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel.
She was born December 28, 1920, in the Newtown Community, to the late Samuel F. and Maude Ester Puckett Carlton. She worked with Chrysler Corporation in Royal Oaks, Michigan for many years, before retiring to Port Richey, Florida. She loved to travel, sew and was a member of the Baptist Faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Haarala in 1974.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Carr, and her husband Dale, of Morristown, New Jersey; a sister, Catherine Smith, of Murfreesboro; two grandchildren, Rebecca Carr, of Maryland and Jason Carr, of New Jersey; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Owen Duane Stewart, age 84, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at Heritage Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. Dr. Kevin Minchey and Larry Perry will officiate. Burial with full Naval honors will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be 11 AM Tuesday until time of service.
He was born March 3, 1925, in Rutherford County, to the late Charles Wesley and Tommie Foster Stewart. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in World War II in the Anti-Submarine Forces in the European and Pacific Theatre.
He was graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, held a Master’s Degree from Vanderbilt-Peabody University. He taught at Ouatchia Baptist College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and was then a principal in the Bedford County School System. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 63+ years, Frances Allen Stewart, of Shelbyville; a daughter, Dr. Deborah Stewart Ruark, and her husband Sandy, of Old Hickory, Tennessee, and a son, Duane Stewart, and his wife Ann Marie, of Shelbyville; three grandchildren, Nathaniel Duane Stewart, Matthew Fraser Stewart, and David Owen Stewart Ruark; two sisters, Clara Jones, of Shelbyville, and Sarah Lokey, of Fosterville; three brothers, Charles (Chuck) Stewart, of Shelbyville, and Marvin Stewart and Ray Stewart, both of Fosterville.

Mrs. Elizabeth Carlen
McLean, age 88, of Shelbyville, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009,
at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, April 18, 2009, at First United
Methodist Church in Shelbyville. The Reverend Dr. Lloyd Doyle will officiate,
with burial to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be 4-7 PM Friday at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel.
Mrs. McLean was born November 13, 1920, in Cookeville, Tennessee, to the late
Alfred Algood Carlen and Elizabeth Reams Cox Carlen. She was one of three
daughters, her sisters being Margaret Alice Carlen Maddux and Catherine Cox
Carlen Cox, both deceased. She married Robert Brank McLean on May 22, 1959, and
they were together until his passing in 1990.
She attended Tennessee Technology University from 1938-1940, and completed her
education at Vanderbilt University in 1942. In her first job, Mrs. McLean worked
for then-Representative Albert Gore, Sr., in Washington, D.C. She was an
interior designer in Chattanooga, having trained at the Ecole des Beaux Arts at
Fontainebleau, France, a homemaker and faithful member of First United Methodist
Church, where she was presently serving as Circle President.
She served on the Board of Trustees of Martin Methodist College from 1993-2005, and
received the President's Medallion in 2006. She was an active member of the
Tennessee Technology President's Club at the Derryberry Level since 1984. She
held membership in the Volunteer Garden Club, Thursday Book Club, Shelbyville
Women's Club and Historic Preservation Society for
Shelbyville-Bedford County. She was an active member of the Argie Cooper Library
Board, Frist Visual Arts Center and Tuesday Morning Bridge Club, and she was the
recipient of the Good Citizens Award from the Chamber of Commerce in
Shelbyville.
Mrs. McLean is survived by nephews and nieces of the Carlen and McLean families.

Mrs. Alene Delk English, age 89, of Shelbyville, died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at Heritage Medical Center.

She was born April 20, 1919, in Bedford County, to the late Burt Johnson Delk and Julia Story Delk. She was a retired legal secretary for her husband, the late Judge Alfred English. She held membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and Shelbyville Woman’s Club. She was a life long member of First Baptist Church in Shelbyville.
She is survived by two sons, Alfred Burton English and Dwight Forest English, both of Shelbyville; three grandchildren, Michael Burton English, Kevin Patrick English, and Kimberly Michelene English; two great grandchildren, Jackson Patrick English and Elle Grace English.

He was born March 20, 1934, in Bedford County, to the late George Raymond and Maude Jarman Arnold, Sr. He was a retired Operations Engineer with Arnold Engineering Development Center.
He was a member of Hurricane Grove Baptist Church.
A brother, Jarman Arnold, preceded him in death.

Mr. Charles Heyward Sudberry, age 85, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, April 19, 2009, at Glen Oaks Convalescent Center.

He was born January 13, 1924, in Rutherford County, to the late James Earnest and Georgia Smotherman Sudberry. He was a retired businessman, an avid sports fan who always supported family activities and local sport teams. He enjoyed attending NASCAR races with friends, playing golf, and lived life to the fullest.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Lum H. Sudberry, and sister in law Thelma, a brother Clyde Sudberry, and a sister, Mary Burrow.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lorene Lamb Sudberry, of Shelbyville; a son, Mike Sudberry, and his wife Patty, of Shelbyville; two sisters, Eula Mai Smith, and her husband James, and Jo Ann Holland, all of Shelbyville; two grandchildren, Shelli Burk, and her husband Wyatt and Shane Sudberry; great grandchild, Kaitlyn Burk; sister in law, Earlene Sudberry, of Murfreesboro and brother in law, Charles Burrow, of Shelbyville.

He was born March 21, 1927, in Bedford County, to the late R.V. and Connie Haggard Melson. He was a veteran of the United States Air Corp and served in World War II. He was retired from City Auto Parts in Huntsville, and attended a Christian church.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Buchanan and Madelyn Carson.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Barrett Melson, of Shelbyville; a son, Mike Bone, and his wife Frieda, of Shelbyville; a brother, Glen “Bo” Melson, and his wife Harriett, of Shelbyville; two grandchildren, Chad Bone, and his wife Becky and Cassie Swafford, all of Shelbyville; two great grandchildren, Brett and Blake Bone.

He was born February, 27, 1931, in Cullman, AL, to the late Aron and Nora Lee Herrin Williams. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Germany and Panama. He was the owner/ operator of Mid-State Vending, and a retired sheriff’s deputy. He held membership in Calvary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Foster Williams, Inez Giles, and Thomas Williams.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Edna Kyle Williams, of Shelbyville; a son, Windell Williams, and his wife Gazella, of Shelbyville; three daughters, Patricia Brown, and her husband Mike, of Shelbyville, Darlene Allen, and her husband Jackie, of Cape Coral, Florida, Regina Erickson, and her husband Bill, of Ft. Mrs. Mary Jane Pickle, age 95, of the Wheel Community, died Friday, April 24, 2009, at Bedford County Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be 3 PM Monday, April 27, 2009, at Shiloh United Methodist. Reverend David Rash will officiate, with burial to follow in the Wheel Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 PM Sunday at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel, and again one hour prior to service Monday at the church.
She was born July 3, 1913, in the Halls Mill Community, to the late William James Smith and Lula Locke Smith. She was a wonderful cake maker and won Blue Ribbons at the County Fair. She was a member of the Shiloh Methodist Women’s Ladies group. She had 49 years perfect attendance at Shiloh United Methodist Church where she was a member.
She married Marvin Edward ‘Jack” Pickle, on November 28, 1935, and were together for 58 years before his passing in 1993.
She is survived by a daughter, Charlene Judd, and her husband, Malcolm, of Shelbyville; a grandson, Matthew Charles Rose, of Shelbyville; nieces and nephews, William L. Sanders, of Cary, N.C., Sylvia Pinson, of Shelbyville, and Grace Curlee, of Manchester; a sister in law, Marjorie Wanninger, of Nashville.

He was born August 20, 1988, in Shelbyville, to the Adrienne Ann Scruggs Hickman, of Shelbyville, and the late Terry Randall Hardison. He was a student at Lipscomb University and a member of the Abundant Life Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Terry Randall Hardison and grandfather, Bryant Hardison.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by grandparents, Bob and Ann White Scruggs, of Melbourne, Florida; Dale and Norma Baxter Brown, of Fairfax, Virginia, and Annie Ruth Hardison, of Fosterville; a brother, Wade Hickman, and his wife Margaret, of Stoutland, Missouri; five sisters, Kyla Arroyo, and her husband Carlos, Angel Michelle Garrett, and Debbie Fleming, and her husband Joe, all of Shelbyville; Terry Sue Mullican and Amy Lynn Hardison, both of Manchester.

Mrs. Wanda Pearson Colcord, age 90, of Shelbyville, died Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at Comfort Care Homes in Wichita, Kansas.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
She was born July 26, 1918, in Flat Creek, to the late William Bibb Pearson and Willie Lee Parker. She was Salutatorian of her class at Shelbyville Central High School and voted Outstanding Athlete of the School. She was a retired Real Estate Broker. She was a veteran of the United States Army retiring as a Captain and serving in World War II. She was Commander of the Women’s Air Corp in the South Pacific, and involved in the breaking of the Japanese Code.
She is survived by two sons, Ray Colcord, of Studio City, California, and Marc Colcord, of Wichita, Kansas.
